I’m Stacey Solomon’s decorating expert – my 3 tips will transform your kitchen using nothing but a splash of paint

THE kitchen is said to be the heart of the home but sadly, it often gets overlooked when decorating for functionality rather than flair.

But making your practical-room into a show stopper to wow guests could be as easy as adding a bit of colour though, according to Stacey Solomon’s decorating expert.

If you’ve been watching Renovation Rescue, you’ll probably be familiar with Marianne Shillingford.

The Creative Director of Dulux and co-host has been helping Stacey transform homes across the country – often just by adding a splash of colour.

During the latest episode, Marianne and Stacey helped a couple give their tired semi-detached some much-needed TLC with a pastel kitchen diner.

Even more impressively, the massive renovation was done on a tight budget – proving that it doesn’t take a lot to have the home of your dreams.

Speaking about the latest episode, Marianne said: “I’m thrilled to see Stacey highlighting the power of colour and colour palettes in transforming spaces.

“Pastel hues possess a unique ability to uplift the mood and create a fresh, inviting atmosphere,” She added.

“In the kitchen, where moments of culinary creativity and family gatherings converge, the mood-boosting elements of pastel colours come to the forefront, infusing the space with a sense of fun and joy.”

If you’ve also been inspired to makeover your space, Marianne has some essential tips to spot you getting overwhelmed when it comes to interior design – especially if you want to add some pastel pops.

Assess the space

When it comes to any renovation, you need to have a plan – even if it is only scrawled on the back of some scrap paper.

A key element is assessing where colour can draw the eye and where it works best in your space, according to the expert.

Marianne explained: “Decide which spaces of the room or area you’re painting will create the most impact having a pop of pastel.”

“It might be the windowsill to draw attention outside by framing the view like a picture or indented/architectural details (e.g arches) to highlight the feature and add different depths.”

Think outside the box

If you are decorating a room, it isn’t always best to play it safe.

As we saw in the latest episode of Renovation Rescue, adding unexpected pops of colour can make your home feel fun and inviting.

“Just because you’re painting a room, that’s not to say you have to paint the walls. Similar to how Stacey painted Katie & Chris’ ceiling sunshine yellow with Dulux Daffodil White, if you’re also decorating your kitchen, why not paint the kitchen cabinet,” revealed Dulux’s creative director.

Don’t overthink it

Of course, we can all feel nervous when it comes to making over our homes.

However, Marianne has warned viewers not to overthink when it comes to picking out hues for their homes.

“When it comes to selecting colour combinations, people tend to get overwhelmed when looking at all the options on a colour wheel chart, but the trick is, if you’re redecorating, take colour inspiration from items in the room that won’t be going so that limits your options and saves money needing to buy new accessories to match,” she added.

If you space is completely bare though, the expert urges homeowners to think about what inspires them and what they are naturally drawn to – even if it is just a bold shirt in their wardrobe.

With these tips and tricks, you’ll have show home in no time.
